At The End of the Potomac

Ridge Volunteer Fire Department

St. Mary's county is the south eastern peninsula between two great rivers, the Patuxent on the north and the Potomac on the south of the western shore of Maryland. Ridge was named because it is at the southwest end of the long ridge which forms the backbone of St. Mary's County. When the post office was established in 1800, the community was called "The Ridge" and it kept that name for 40 years. The "The" part of the name was eventually dropped.
Approaching the Ridge Fire Department
Ridge is not a tourist destination. There's a church, a BIG volunteer fire department, a general store, a restaurant and a couple of cemeteries.
