Expensive, Off in the Woods and Only Open Weekends

Don't come to the Drift Inn unless you want to eat hard crabs and pay a good price for them. There's very little else on the menu. Not that the food isn't good, but paying $42 (including tax and tip) for two glasses of iced tea, two mugs of soup, a crab cake sandwich on a Wonderbread type hamburger bun, a small piece of cheesecake with blueberries and 1/2 lb. of shrimp is right much. Hard crabs were $32/dozen.

There is no potable water to drink. If you ask for water to drink, you will have to buy bottled water (or bring your own).

The Drift Inn is only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It is a long way from the road (as it is on the Patuxent River), and there are plenty of signs to tell you which way to go, but it is disappointing to drive all that distance on a Thursday and find it is not open.

Rising Waters

The community at the mouth of Horse Landing Creek is quite low lying in the water. It there is any tidal surge (like there was with Hurricane Isabel in 2003) much of the area will be flooded. The Drift Inn is right by Horse Landing Creek, and they had significant flood damage after the hurricane. The picture was the photos that were taken at the time which were on display in the entrance.
