Jekyll Island - once the playground of millionaires - is now one of Georgia's major resort areas.

We have mostly visited it by boat. The Jekyll Harbor Marina is not only very nice, but at a perfect place to stop after going through coastal Georgia. We stopped here on the way down in December 2000 because it had been recommended to us. On the way back, we went to Golden Isles Marina instead. However we were back on November 2001. On the way south, our next visit is Fernandina Beach Florida.

Our last visit was on March 23, 2002 when we left Fernandina and went 32 sm to Jekyll Island. The no-see-ums followed us from Fernandina.

Jekyll Harbor Marina

We were happy to see that the nice restaurant there, was still in operation. We come here mainly for the restaurant. Bob thinks we are the kiss of death for restaurants along the waterway. I think it is just a fact of life for waterway restaurants.

In the winter of 2002-2003, we did not come south. In the fall of 2003, and again in the spring of 2004, we avoided the sounds and nasty tides of Georgia altogether by going offshore from Charleston to the St. Mary's River.

During December of 2006, we took a cruise that ended up in Fort Lauderdale. We drove back home and stopped on the way to eat at Sea Jay's Cafe.

On the way north, our next stop is an anchorage in Georgia - usually the Wahoo River.

The wreck on Jekyll isn't a sailboat its whats left of the mast on a shrimp boat. Looking closer you can see that its bent to the side suggesting the nets caught on a heavy snag or that the boat sank offshore and its the result of rolling on the bottom.
