Vaca Key Travel Guide: 4 reviews and 47 photos

The actual location of the City of Marathon in Florida is Vaca Cay.

In 1906 a railroad survey map showed ten houses in the area of Crane Point. When the developers of the Overseas Railroad asked residents to sign a release granting them a right of way through the property the residents declined to do so unless they were given a station. The railroad agreed and "Station Vaca" was created

See the Crane Point Museum and Nature Center narratives for more detailed information on and pictures of this museum.

In addition to the Crane Point Museum, Marathon has a public golf course (one of two in the keys). a nice public beach (Sombrero Beach), and a lot of fishing, scuba and snorkeling opportunities.
