Marina at night - Stock Island

Marina at night

Oceanside Marina

Oceanside is primarily a motor boat/ fishing boat marina, but it is also convenient for sailboats.

In 2001, they charged us $2.65/foot plus $2.50/foot for environmental impact fee plus tax. Water, electricity and cable was included. I was afraid to tell Bob how much it was, and it has apparently gone up 10 cents a foot since then.

They gave us cards for the shower facilities, and said if we lost them they'd charge an additional $10 but didn't require a deposit. The washers were $1.75, and they were a little sticky about taking money. Two didn't work. The dryers were very good and efficient.

Of the 3 pay phones (2 shown on the right), one had no dial tone, one had a loud hum on the line, and only one worked well enough to phone on. The restaurant on the premises was not open. The Hickory House right outside the gate is but we never went there. We never could find the Rusty Anchor that the gate guard recommended. There is a guard on at night. You can get pizza or chinese food delivered if desired.

Equipment: Current rates from the website. You can see why the moorings are such a good deal.

1. Slip rate, daily transient (includes utilities) $2.75/FT/DAY
2. Seawall rate, daily transient (includes limited utilities) $2.50/FT/DAY
3. Long term dockage rates (must be paid in advance)
MONTHLY $27.00 / FT / MONTH
QUARTERLY (pre-payment) $25.00 / FT / MONTH
SEMI-ANNUAL (pre-payment) $24.00 / FT / MONTH
ANNUAL (pre-payment) $23.00/FT/MONTH
SEAWALL (One month max.) $21.00/FT/MONTH
4. Oceanfront slips (679-692)
Daily transient rate $3.25 / FT/DAY
Monthly rate (slip rate) plus $80.00 / MONTH
5. Environmental Impact Fee of 1 1/2% will be charged on all daily and monthly storage rates.
6. Liveaboard Fee
(applies to tenants living aboard 10 or more days consecutively) $80.00 / MONTH

Notes:
Include: electricity, water, garbage, bathhouse, and cable TV. (No cable hookup on the Seawall) .

They also have dry storage, and a boat ramp and they rent boats.

Golf course from the highway - Stock Island

Golf course from the highway

Key West Golf Club on Stock Island

My sister and BIL wanted to come and vacation close to where we were. He likes to play golf, so I checked up on it for him.

Even though golf is BIG in Florida, as far as I know there are only 4 courses in the keys. Two are private courses (in Key Largo and Marathon), and two are public courses. One of the public courses is on Stock Island.

The website says:

Golf legend REES JONES masterfully designed this public, 18 hole, 6,500 yard course to be a challenge to players of all abilities. ..

Equipment: The course is right next to the Botanical Garden.

Challenges of the course, include the infamous "Mangrove Hole" (143 yards, par 3 that is played completely over a field of thickly intertwined tropical mangroves).

Address: 6450 College Rd

Directions: At the first intersection of College Rd when heading toward Key West. But College Road loops around back to US 1 - so go in either end of College Rd. and still get there.
