Ft. Lauderdale's Port - NOT in the Everglades

Cruise ships in Port Everglades
Radisson Seven Seas and several other cruise lines use Ft. Lauderdale as an embarkation and disembarkation point for Caribbean cruises. The actual port in Ft. Lauderdale is known as Port Everglades, and it is the third-busiest cruise port in the world, drawing almost 3 million cruise passengers in its 11 cruise terminals. .

..Port Everglades is the deepest harbor south of Norfolk.

.. the seaport was named Port Everglades in 1930 after a naming contest was held.
Ft. Lauderdale from the Atlantic
The seaport is, in fact, located on the southeastern coast of the Florida peninsula within the three cities of Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood and Dania Beach, as well as unincorporated Broward County. It is approximately 23 miles north of Miami, 48 miles south of West Palm Beach and 312 miles south of Jacksonville.

Port Everglades' jurisdiction encompasses a total of 2,190 acres (887hectares) which includes 1,742 acres of upland and 448 acres of submergedland. Upland acreage falls within the following municipalities:

* 1,242 acres or 71.3% of Port Everglades is located within the City of Hollywood.
* 232 acres or 13.3% is located within the City of Fort Lauderdale.
* 234 acres or 13.4% is located within the City of Dania Beach.
* 34 acres or 2% is located within unincorporated Broward County

Since we usually pass Fort Lauderdale offshore from Ft. Pierce on our way south, I don't usually have a chance to take pictures of the port except for a few times when we were on a cruise ship
