In the Shadow of Daytona

by grandmaR - last update: Jan 23, 2005

Ormond Beach from Plantation Island
ICW Bridge on the Halifax River
When I was 16, we came to Florida and saw Daytona, but we actually spent the time at Ormond Beach which was cheaper. There was a hurricane offshore, so the waves and undertow were too great to actually do much swimming though.

Now, when traveling on our boat, I note Ormond Beach mainly as an indication that we are getting closer to Daytona where we can tied up to a marina, or anchor in the Halifax River.
Sunrise from the condo
In 2005, we came and stayed in a condo on Ormond Beach and toured around the area. I got to like the place very much, although it was much too cold to swim. The travelogue has the trip report, plus some photos of The Casements.

Wow! This house is gorgeous--love the wraparound porches. What a beautiful taste of Ormond history.

Very interesting. There is an Ormond Beach here in CA too, a wetland preserve. Thank you. KM
