Sign for marina in river - Melbourne

Sign for marina in river

MM 916.7 Intercoastal Marina, Ltd.

On our way back in 2002, I didn't want to anchor if we didn't have to, and I didn't want to go back to Melbourne Marina, so we went here. Entrance channel supposed to be 8 ft, but was down to 6.5 in a couple of places. $1/ft + tax, only 50 amp and no splitter available. They were also having a power boat show and were somewhat distracted. Not really a sailboat friendly marina. Nice restaurant (early bird specials 4-6), but the bar that overlooked the marina was VERY noisy starting at 9 pm. (It was Thirsty Thursday.)

Equipment: Hurricane Jeanne (2004) destroyed all docks at this marina. It will be closed until repaired

It had 121 slips, pump out, laundry, showers, dry storage, lift, mechanics, fuel, ship store, restaurants. 25% OFF DOCKAGE, $.10 CENTS OFF FUEL W/500 GAL MIN

Address: 705 S. Harbor City Blvd. Melbourne, Fl.

MM 920 Anchorage

We've been to marinas twice in Melbourne, but most of the time we just anchor - usually near the Eau Galle Bridge. Almost anywhere on the Indian River is appropriate for anchoring.

Equipment: Last time, we anchored about mile marker 920 behind Crab Point off Melbourne Beach about 1320. The wind was 10-20 knots from the east - we were as close to
shore as we could get.

Also around Mile 903 you can anchor almost anywhere out of the channel along the river in the Melbourne area and north.

MM 918.5 Melbourne Harbor Marina

We were not too impressed with this place. They required an imprint of a credit card for $30 (!!) for their restroom key. The dockmaster we talked to was an idiot who had a sort of semi-hostile jokey manner. They put us in a slip with barely 5 feet of water. He waited until we were halfway in to ask if we'd rather go to another slip. The area smelled of sewage (according to a local it always smells like that), there was a highway right behind us and a train trestles right behind that. Trains went through at all hours of the day and night - whistling continuously. You can get ice cheaper just up the stairs at the gas station next to the highway. Three bags at the marina is $4.50, and at the gas station 3 bags is $3.45. The price is $1.25/foot, but that includes electricity and cable. They did let me use the fax to download e-mail but I had to balance the computer on an open file drawer which wasn't too comfortable

Equipment: They have a restaurant (Chart House), but it is quite expensive. We walked up into town, and there is a deli that is open for lunch that is reasonable, and we went to Bella's for dinner which is about a block down.. Be careful crossing the street - the walk sign is only on for about 3 nanoseconds.
