Inlet inhabitants

Most of the boats in the inlet are power boats. Because of shoaling, the inlet has to be constantly dredged, so there is a little barge that pumps the sand and some floating pipes right at the entrance. It is a tricky inlet in some conditions such as an opposing tide and wind which makes really steep short waves. It can be difficult to control a boat under such circumstances and sailboats which are often large heavy boats with a relatively tiny motor have more difficulty than power boats with their larger engine to boat ratio.

A half dozen boaters die each year using South Florida Inlets. Boaters should have good seamanship skills before using inlets. Strong currents and shoaling (in the inlets and just beyond the jetties) are common Florida inlet dangers.

MM 1053.7 Lighthouse Point Marina, Inc

We went into Lighthouse Point Marina on Sunday. They put us on an end dock, which was fine, but they did not have ANYONE to help us tie up, and the wind was blowing us out into the channel. Fixed docks- new. They have the customs boats, the sheriff and the tow people docked there. A new laundry room and mail room, new showers, ice, bait tubs, fuel, a small marine/convenience store, a small restaurant. Nothing nearby though. They have 50 amp connections, and you have to get a splitter for 30. They have water, but the TV/phone connections are not hooked up out on the docks. Probably because people have satellite dishes on their boats.
