The Key West Shuttle has in the past operated two boats - one year round from Ft Myers Beach, the M/V Big Cat Express, is 150 feet long, featuring two enclosed cabins, sun deck, Satellite TV, slot machines and full galley and bar and the other in season from Marco River Marina in Marco Island, the M/V Whale Watcher is a 130' Super Cruiser, powered by 5 jet drives it is the fastest trip to Key West. It features two enclosed, air conditioned cabins, sun deck, and full galley and bar. Fares are similar to those of X-Press. Their website is no longer active.

The Key West Ferry's X-Press ferry from Ft. Myers is currently (8-04) offering a price of $99.00. I do not know whether parking in Ft. Myers is free. They operate this primarily as a day trip, but you can also stay overnight in Key West. Reservations are recommended.

Moped Hospital scooter - Key West

Moped Hospital scooter

Moped Hospital Bicycles Review

This is actually a company that rents or sells scooters and bikes - not as a first thought a mobile repair facility for mopeds.

They say (correctly) that the Old Town Historical Area is congested with narrow, meandering streets, lanes and by-ways and parking space is expensive and in short supply. So the only convenient way is on your personal bicycle, scooter or moped. Fly into Key West and rent a scooter, moped, or bicycle. Key West is very flat and fairly small so getting around on a bike is a good option.

Bikes are $12.00 for the first day, $8.00 each additional day, or $40.00 per week.
Scooters are $35 for the day, $40 for overnight and $150 for the week

Bikes are much cheaper. When we were here on our boat, we had folding bikes so that we could ride up to the grocery store or down to the library.

Electric car from sidewalk over Bob's shoulder - Key West

Electric car from sidewalk over Bob's shoulder

Bubble cars Tiny Cars Review

I was considering getting one of these cars, but they are quite expensive. And you still have to find a place to park them.

From Electric Cars of Key West
2 Seaters $29 per hour 2 hour minimum
$99 per night for 3 or more nights

4 Seaters $39 per hour 2 hour minimum
$139 per night for 3 or more nights
Rates do not include 7.5% sales tax

Their top speed is 25 mph, but you can't go much faster than that in downtown Key West anyway.

You can also get these bubble cars from Tropical Rentals

An Adventure In Key West Tiny Cars Review

Adventure Scooters has much more sexy mopeds than this on their webpage - but I don't think the bikini clad model comes with the scooter. But I have not been able to find out the price of these little cars. At least they will not require that you be able to balance on a two wheeler.

Eight Routes Transportation Options Review

Yes there is a public bus system in Key West, and it is pretty comprehensive. A map of the routes is as http://www.keywestcity.com/egov/docs/1209991161_463653.pdf

They provides public transit services throughout Key West, Stock Island on 8 routes, the earliest of which begin operation at 5:30 am and run as late as 11:30 pm.

There used to be shuttles that went around to the various hotels and dropped off, but apparently those services have shut down because so many of the hotels have closed.

There are several big grocery stores. We usually go to the commissary, but if that is closed we go to Publix which is on Roosevelt Blvd in Searstown. There's also a WinnDixie.

The lower level is meter parking ($1.00 per hour) and is available 24 hours, 7 days a week. The parking garage is one of the stops regular city buses. The bus costs $1.00 or for $3.00 you can get a daily pass to ride wherever you want to on the island.

There is also a lot near Mallory Square where parking is $ 3.00 / hour, no maximum $150./monthy permit, which is also limited to the total number sold per month, and does not include sales tax of .75%, or $161.25 total/month
