Summer of 1948, Winter 1964 and Spring 1985

Summer 1948

Pikes Peak
Part of the summer of 1948 we stayed with my uncle who ran the State Game Farm outside Colorado Springs. We went up Pikes Peak where the indians would dance (for tips) for photographers. In one of the pictures my dad took the Indian on the left has his hand extended to be paid. I think these Indians were really from New Mexico. In the picture, the people are - Indian, my little sister, Indian girl, Indian, my 3 cousins, and me - I'm the one in the back with the cowboy hat. I was 10 at the time.

My father attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs. I considered going there but my mom didn't want me to go because she was afraid I'd marry someone in the AF. [So I married a guy I met in high school who went to the USNA.]

In 1964, my husband was transferred from Norfolk to Monterey CA. We drove across country twice, stopping to visit my Aunt and Uncle who lived in Brighton at the time. We also revisited Colorado Springs.

I like the opening photo. And the postcard is beautiful.

The old photos are wonderful - quite a rarity on VT! I am lucky to have family in Co Sprgs and it is a fantastic place. My grandfather's sister married a handsome US airforceman in WW2 and they settled there!
