These pages will be permanently under construction until I find the journal I wrote when we took that trip. (We've moved since then, and I don't know where it is.) In the meantime, I've just got the pictures to jog my memory.

The picture above was taken walking along the shore in Caye Caulker between our hut on stilts and the main part of town.

In October of 1995, my husband started the 1995 to 2000 round of travels (the ones before we retired) by saying we were going to Bermuda for Thanksgiving.

I got certifed in SCUBA in the Virgin Islands in 1997 (I had dived before in the late 60s, but I took a national course this time) and in February/March of 1998 we took a trip to see the great reef of Belize.

Subsequently we went to Cozumel where my husband also got certified (in SCUBA!! - I'm doubly certified or certifiable, as I am also a Certified Industrial Hygienist).

Since then (after we retired) we've mostly traveled on our own boat, which we bought as a result of that Virgin Islands trip.

In addition to the mainland of Belize, with Belize City, and the Cayo District uplands near the border, Belize also has many cayes (pronounced keys) ranging from fairly large like Ambergris to very small. We started out at Caye Caulker, transferred via a snorkeling trip to Hol Chan to San Pedro (Ambergris Caye), flew to the mainland and rented a car and drove to Placenica, and then drove to the Cayo district where we left the car and took a two day trip to Tikal.
