Cooperage in 2004 - Sandys Parish

Cooperage in 2004

Bermuda Craft Market at Dockyard: Crafts produced in Bermuda

The old cooperage stone building dates from 1831.

We went here right after we left the museum. All of the things were locally made and there are people who demonstrate what they do. I love this store and almost always go here to shop when I come to Bermuda

Candles, cedar work, ceramics, Christmas ornaments, jewelry, miniature furniture, quilts, wearable art, dolls, paintings, glass blown images and much more.

What to buy: I thought of buying a model of a bus for my grandsons, but thought it was too expensive. In 1995, I got a nice Bermuda bag for my mom, and some clothes for my grandchildren. In 2004, I got a moon gate picture for my DIL, a hand painted dress for one of my granddaughters, a cross stitch picture for my mom, and a large barrette for one of my daughters.

Sometimes Bob buys himself the rum cake. In 2011, I got a sun dress and cloth zippered a pocketbook for one granddaughter, a T-shirt for another one, and a Xmas ornament for one of my daughters.

Hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; opening times may vary on Sundays and public holidays. There is no entrance fee.

What to pay: They gave me a gift bag with a couple of minatures and some soap for spending over $75.00

1995 Troll- sign says Please Do Not Touch - I Bite - Sandys Parish

1995 Troll- sign says Please Do Not Touch - I Bite

various shops: Clocktown Mall

The Great Eastern Storehouse, with 3 foot walls and 100 foot towers, was built in 1856. The clock on the south tower was cast in England in 1857 by John Moore and Sons. What seems to be a single hand clock on the eastern side of the north tower is a rare "tide clock." In Royal Navy days, the hand was set daily to indicate the time of high tide. The towers are still easily identified from a distance, making them an excellent reference point for mariners. The building is now an upscale mall.

Unfortunately I didn't get a good picture of the tide clock.

We ate lunch in the mall and then browsed in the shops before we took the ferry back to Hamilton. I remember there being a place where you could look up your family tree. However, I did most of my shopping at the Bermuda Craft Market and in the big stores in Hamilton.

Abstract of the website: Inside the Clocktower Building there are a variety of boutiques and stores in the cobblestoned mall. Everything from artwork to crystal, perfume to Cuban cigars, photography to funky clothing, gifts and souvenirs for all ages and tastes is sold here.

What to buy: Inside are branches of the various big department stores of Hamilton like davidsons, and A.S. Cooper's

At A. S. Cooper's store look for vibrantly colored pareos and dresses, plus an exciting line of T-shirts for the whole family. Cooper also features an array of Bermuda gfts, including delightful teapots, Cat's Meow storefronts, puzzles and more. Fragrant Bermuda cedar and locally made shell ornaments look great on your Christmas tree and remind you of the islands. You'll also find gifts from Waterford, Swarovski, Wedgwood, Aynsley, Lladro, Belleek, Royal Doutlon and Halcyon Days. Well-known European and American fragrances are priced the same as in duty-free shops

There are also jewelry shops including Crisson Jewellers.who offers you carefully selected jewelry and timepieces at savings well below U.S. prices. Our watch selection includes the finest brands in the world: ESQ SEIKO, Rolex, Gucci, Omega, Movado, Cyma, Swatch, Ebel, Tag Heuer, Hamilton, Tissot, RADO, Swiss Army, Raymond Weil. In keeping with Crisson tradition, you’ll find a chic Gucci boutique inside our stores.
