I was told that Virgin Gorda, or "Fat Virgin", was named by Columbus. I can see how he would get the Fat part of it, but how did he know that she was a Virgin? Virgin Gorda is notable for two luxury hotels (Little Dix Bay and Bitter End Yacht Club) and The Baths which is a collection of LARGE boulders. Near The Baths is Devils Bay National Park, which the Rockefellers gave to the BVI in the 1960s. |
The BVI in general is also known for water sports, particularly sailing, snorkeling and scuba diving. |
