Snorkeling and Hiking Trails

While we were here, we were waiting on the weather to get back to the states - it was too cold and too windy to be really good for snorkeling. But the Old Bahama Bay folks gave us this map which seemed to indicate that there were snorkeling trails which could be accessed from the beach. The map also shows the marina, possible homesites with water access, ponds and a hiking trail.

Old Bahama Bay - a new marina

The old Jack Tar marina at West End had really become run down, and was very cheap. However, it has been extensively renovated, including changing the entrance channel so that it is no longer like what the charts show. Has 72 slips for vessels up to 120' with a controlling depth of 8 feet at MLW

Equipment: The new marina is called Old Bahama Bay and is now $1/ft plus 40 cents/ft if you get electric, with a mandatory $10/day water charge. They have a similar email setup to Chubb- you pay by the minute for a long distance call to the US.

They have a customs/immigration check-in, fuel, a very expensive restaurant, a hotel operation, and lots of walks/hikes. There was also supposed to be a beach bar/hamburger place, but I never found it. The dockmaster Peter Watson is very nice and efficient. They monitor VHF channel 16 switching to channel 10

Directions: 56 mi. from Palm Beach - red & white water tower; 30' tower sign; 215' TV tower fixed red lights top & midpoint.-at night, the TV tower is visible long before you see the lights for Indian Cay.
