Hi,
I visited the Andamans Islands in the year May 1989. It was one of the most interesting place I have ever visited.
Andaman & Nicobar Islands or the Port Blair is an archipelago of 321 emerald isles floating in splendid isolation in the Bay of Bengal. Stretching over a length of 700 kms of natural splendor, they make an unparalleled holiday resort. These islands are India's answer to the best of Hawaii, & what's more is that they are untouched & pristine beyond imagination. The beaches are bordered by dense forest and the water is imaculately clean & transparent right through to the sea bed. The islands are inhabitated almost entirely by tribals.
The islands are peaks of a submerged mountain & the history of modern times dates back to Marathas from whom the Britishers captured it in the 19th century & converted into a cellular jail for political prisoners. The cellular jail, corbyn's cove-a very picturesque beach, the anthropological museum, the chatham saw mill, the marine museum, jolly buoy, madhuban, sippighat, wandoor, chiriya tapu & car nicobar are some of the chief attraction of the andamans.
Andamans is connected by air to Chennai & Calcutta and by sea to Vizag, Chennai & Calcutta & the travel time is 3 days each way (by sea).
Andaman weather is typically tropical and the maximum temperature is 31 degrees C & minimum is 23 degrees C. The rains are very heavy especially between June - September.
