Damaraland was our next step after Etosha. The region, which is one of the most scenic in Namibia, was named for the Damara people who make up much of its sparce population. This is where our guide Mellican came from so he was pretty excited about arriving there and telling us more about his life. We spent two wonderful days in this dramatic rocky region admiring the Brandberg massif with its peak at 2573m (Königstein), the Spitzkoppe (a pointed inselberg at 1728m), the petroglyphs in Twyfelfontein, the petrified forest and the organ pipes geological sites among others.

Aba Huab Camp

At night, we rested in typical little huts under the stars in one of the most scenic campsites. Albeit the mosquitos, this is one of my best memories ;-)
