Welcome to Brussels, my hometown !

by Bigjones - last update: Jun 2, 2004

Cheers from Brussels !!

I've been living in Brussels for a few years now and this is a really nice place to live. Some of the people visiting Brussels for the first time are disappointed thinking there's not much to see there. May be because like its inhabitants, Brussels is quite modest and only shows its many little treasures to those who take time to explore it further. Brussels being the capital of Art Nouveau, you can discover there wonderful houses, museums restaurants and bars designed and built by talented Belgian architects like Horta, Cauchie, Hankar, Van de Velde, etc.
But the aspect I probably like the most about my city is its cosmopolitan flair. As it's very central in Europe and it's the home of NATO and many European "headquarters", you can easily meet people from all over the world. Take the underground and you'll understand what I'm talking about. Since about one third of the population is made up of foreigners, you will probably hear many different languages at the same time and not only French or Flemish, the two official languages spoken in Brussels.

And as I can do everything I like here, Brussels is perfect for me ! It's very dynamic (a lot of concerts and festivals, especially in the summer) and culturally interesting. There is such a large choice of activities that I'm sure you'll certainly find the right one for you. And last but not least, Brussels inhabitants are usually simple and friendly and enjoy the good things in life like good food, good beer, good chocolate and waffles ;-) Hope to see you around soon !

I'm doing my best to update my pages as soon as I can. But if you don't want to miss anything of the must see activites, you can also have a look at Norali's page

Pros:"Very international, great architecture, cool people ;-)"
Cons:"Too much rain and no underground anymore after 1 a.m., aaargh !!"
In A Nutshell:"Surreal but nice !!"
