Local Cuisine: Good food and a lot of fun on Djema El Fna

  • Restaurant Name: Number 12, Djema El Fna (Adil & co)

Djema El Fna is the place to find very cheap and delicious meals in the evening in an inimitable atmosphere. That's amazing to see how they try to attract clients !! We chose the number 12 and had such a fun evening that we came back another day. Believe me, they serve the best fries (and I'm a expert !! ;-)
They also serve all kinds of meat, fish and vegetable. It's good and fresh (we were not sick afterwards ;-). Tea is generally for the "house". For 25 Dh (2,5 USD), you can already eat a lot !

    Local Cuisine: The best couscous
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Chez Mimoun

It's in this old riad lovely decorated and very romantic that I ate my best couscous in Marrakesh ! If you want to spend a nice evening in good company in an old Moroccan palace without paying too much, that restaurant is perfect. But don't go there when it's cold outside because there are not a lot of seats inside. After spending the afternoon under the rain, we would have prefered to eat in a warm place instead of outside ! But when we saw the place, we couldn't resist ;-)

Directions: From Djema el Fna, take "Rue Riad Zitoun el-Qedim", it will be on your left (I'm not sure if it was the fourth street on the left). Anyway, when you approach, you'll see indications.

Local Cuisine: View on the stork's nest
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Le nid de cigogne (the stork's nest)

We met the owner of this restaurant by a mere chance, that's how we got to know it. It's very well located, in the Kasbah district, near the Saadian tombs, and from the terrace, you have a nice view on the storks. The terrace is very nicely decorated (we noticed an influence of Majorelle in the blue pottery !) and food is excellent. We didn't eat on the terrace that time because it was raining too much but sitting on sofas was very comfortable too.
The restaurant's owner also has the bakery next door where you can find the best pastries in the whole Marrakesh according to me (filled with cream, chocolate, almonds, with bananas on top etc. ) we tried them all (or almost), definitely the best !

Local Cuisine: Cheap and delicious tajines
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Chez Chegrouni

The decoration is not very nice (neon lighting and tables on trestles) but if the weather is fine, you can sit outside on the terrace.
Food is excellent and cheap. Many locals eat there too.

Favorite Dish: I tried a delicious chicken-lemon tajine and drank a banana juice.
