Our second night in a Berber tent The road that leads to the golden dunes (Erg Chebbi) is terrific. We were lucky to have a great driver who knew his way in this stone desert. That was not very comfortable but the view was so impressive that we didn't care about our travel conditions ;-) When we approached the dunes, I thought they were fake. Everything is so flat around and suddenly you see these huge dunes, pink at first, then the colour of gold. Wow ! Even if the bottom still hurt from the day before, I was happy to see my favorite animals again and to go to our campement on their back. But this time, they were more comfortable than in Zagora, probably because the ground was softer. You feel so small when you are in the dunes, the view is so beautiful, especially at sunset. Unfortunately we couldn't see the sunrise because of the weather. We had rain, oh yeah ! I would have never thought that it could rain there in the desert. But I confirm ! That makes all this experience off the beaten path ! |

paulfineart Wed Feb 18, 2009 17:29 UTC It rained for us too(.Jan2009). It was great. The sky darkened and the heavens opened. We were riding camels over the dunes at the time. Then the lightning started. What a spectacular sight. | barryg23 Fri Jan 26, 2007 20:09 UTC Seemd strange getting rain in a place like Merzouga. Hope we avoid it when we visit in April. | JLBG Fri May 27, 2005 07:05 UTC Too bad you did not stay longer after the rain : two days after the rain, the desert is blooming with flowers everywhere. It is called "acheb" | V_Minx Thu Jan 6, 2005 17:37 UTC Bridget, Hope your New Year is starting out right. Thought I'd kick off 2005 by handing out some ratings to my friends. Great pages! |
