  • The Statue of Liberty in New York (46,5m) was a gift from France to the USA. It was build by two French men : the sculptor Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi et the architect Gustave Eiffel, who is famous for its eponymous tower.

Several replicas of the statue exist in the world, one being just a step away from the Eiffel Tower on the small island ("Ile aux Cygnes") in front of the Grenelle Bridge (metro : Bir Hakeim) (height : 11,5m).

This statue seems to be really "off the beaten path" for the Parisians themselves. I read about it in a travel book but I didn't have the addess so I asked many people in the street to know exactly where it was but most of them thought I was joking, even a bus driver working for a touristic company ! Finally, we found it ourselves while walking along the Seine ;-)

  • East meets West in this building built in 1987 by Jean Nouvel and Architecture Studio on the banks of the river Seine.

The north facade faces the historical part of Paris (Notre-Dame etc.) and symbolizes the relationship with the old city while the south facade reflects the Arab geometry in the 240 moucharabiehs that make it up. These diaphragms open and close according to the light.

I heard you can have a drink or eat on top and the view is awesome but I'll have to go back to see it since it was closed when we were there.
