Bussing it...

The public transport system in Prague is good value, although obviously it helps if you know how to get around. There is a kiosk inside the airport arrivals hall selling bus tickets, and you can pick up basic information from there. Bus tickets are available in lots of places, like newspaper kiosks.

Standard tickets cost 12 CZK and are valid for an hour (except for late evenings when they last 90 minutes) - they must be stamped as soon as you board the bus/tram/metro, or you are liable to be fined. The inspectors check frequently and have little sympathy.

There is also a ticket valid for 24 hours once stamped, or for 3, 7 or 15 days. This can be a handy option if your hotel isn't that close to the town centre and you're likely to be using public transport a lot.

Tickets for transporting luggage cost 6 CZK. Better safe than sorry, although I forgot about this and got away with it.
