Sporting capital OF Australia

by ombre - last update: May 30, 2006

Cathy freeman(2000 gold medal winner 400meter's )

This city has a bit of every thing

LIke me many members must sit back as I do and wonder where to begin when writing about the city they live .
some will be proud of where they live,
others will wish maybe they live some where else.
some might even take it for granted how good they have it
for me having lived in Melbourne since I was 16 and hating it with all my being when first moving here from a small country town.
I can sit back now and reflect how different I feel.
I love my city and would chose here over any other city I have ever seen .
thats not saying I would not be prepared to live some where else for several years or months ..
Melbourne is a city of vast cultural Differences
Our city is about 3.5 million people most who after years as tea drinking gits must be one of the worlds biggest drinkers of coffee per capita.
It's known as the sporting capital of Australia and was the First city in Australia to have hosted the Olympic gamesback in 1956 .
but as I state in my home page I'm not about writng history notes.
Besides I to lazy to comfirm facts or give credit to which book I stole the info from.
It's is true to say we are not quite normal about our sport here maybe thats a insigt into how us locals live and what makes us tick.
We are not soccer mad as aussie rules dominats our football scene how ever the up comming world cup will make it hard for you to believe this if you enter a pub when ther game on
i wrote this section with splitting head ache from lack of sleep frorm watching every second of the Athen games I could muster
Not sure if we are sports mad or rather mad about sport.
Maybe a touch of both al I can say is Melbourne as result must have some of the world best sporting venue's both for playing and watching sport
Restaurants are of Abundance and are some thing which I can offer great advice about .
I am passionate about food and for that reason melbourne is perfect for me.
Our markets are brilliant in terms of variatey and fresh produce .
Melbourne is coffee Mad and so has many brilliant coffee shops and cafe's .
All though shopping is not a passion of mine and better left to woman folk ,enough quality shopping area's can be found to satify even the most crazy female shopper.
In 2006 MELBOURNE WILL HOLD.(Did hold )
the largest sporting event it has held since the 56 games and When the commonwealth games arrive people will see again just how much this city loves sport.

Pros:"I did I mention sport"
Cons:"The carlton football club (is it wrong to hate ????????)"
In A Nutshell:"If it wasn't for the weather you all be trying to live here"
