A little bit of Heaven on Earth | Hillside view across the bay |
Mo-Bay caters for young and old alike, and you can have the kind of holiday best suited to your personality and disposition.
If you like to spend the day in the sun, and the evening, and early hours of the morning eating, drinking and shaking your booti, then this is the place to be! But, if you like to sightsee during the day and relax at night, there are plenty of trips to go on.
One of the most popular places to see is the Dunns River Falls near Ocho Rios (but if you're not fit don't attempt the climb up the falls, take the easy way and walk up the path at the side!)
There is also the Bob Marley foundation at Nine Miles, St. Ann; the beaches at Negril, and Rick's Cafe (I wasn't very impressed, a bit tatty and VERY expensive-make sure you eat before you go!)
The above trips are featured in my travelogues.
The Blue Mountains are truly beautiful-see a coffee plantation and watch rum being made and taste a few samples!
The Bob Marley museum in Kingston is worth the drive; sit in the garden and let the peaceful atmosphere wash away the worries of life!
For the English, go to Newport, Mandeville and visit the Ground Force Garden (Allan Titchmarsh and his gardening crew) at the Curfey Home for ex-servicemen. (see my Jamaica page Travelogues) On the way there you will drive through the much publicised Bamboo Avenue. (see my Jamaica page)
A 15min. drive from Mo-Bay, will take you to Rose Hall, home of Annie Palmer, the White Witch who liked to murder her husbands and lovers! (click on my Travelogues at the top of this page) |
| Small bay on the Mobay coast |
| | There are a few pretty little beaches along Gloucester Avenue that are usually deserted, and I cannot understand why tourists prefer to crowd onto the larger ones, AND have to PAY to do it! |
| Cruise ships in the harbour |
| | The cruise ships tend to visit on Tuesdays, and to ensure the passengers feel safe, there are a lot of extra police officers on duty in the town; so if you are a little nervous about going to the locals' shopping area, this is a good day to go. It's a great experience, cheaper than the tourist shops, and when you've done it once, you will want to do it again. Just be aware of the dangers of pickpockets etc. as you would when shopping anywhere. |

| Pros: | "You can drink the water. Tourist districts well policed.Well placed for sightseeing.A base that offers something for everyones taste." | | Cons: | "Traffic jams downtown.Chocolate bars are about 3 times the normal price!" | | In A Nutshell: | "It truly is a little bit of Heaven on Earth." |
