Urban Jungle of the East

by Fondest_Memories - last update: Mar 17, 2008

Well, what can I say. My first trip to Ho Chi Minh was actually during the Winter months of 2001. I have been back twice after that. I got to Tan San Nhat International Airport around 10:00 am local time. The moment I stepped off the plane the heat just got the best of me. Humidity of tropical weather. I could barely stand the heat, let alone the humidity. Next up were the dust and the smell an urban city in Asia. The words to describe it would be "culture shock" for me. Nonetheless, ironic because I was actually born in this country 21 years prior to this trip. I hated it, at least for the first couple of hours. Then the city grew on me, and grew quickly. I really love watching people busily make their way through the crowded streets of Saigon. The enviroment was bussling with noise of people, beast (dogs), motorbikes and cars. However, with the bustle and hustle stress was a little factor in these people's lives. I know this for a fact because I have relatives who lives in the city. I see no signs of stress on them. I really admire that type of lifestyle, a kind of take it day by day attitude. Surely, Ho Chi Minh (Saigon as most still refer it as) city has grew in me and remain in my heart 'til this very moment. ---Days and years has changed, but feeling remains. My thoughts about this city has not yet to sway, so what is said above still holds true.
