Dubai - ancient & modern

DUBAI

Burj Al Arab
Dubai is an ultramodern city divided in 2 parts by the Dubai Creek and the commercial centre of the Middle East. It's clean, safe (even for woman travelling alone - annoyances are taboo) and dynamic.

It's one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Middle East which has its own individual charm.

Travel time:

In summer it's very humid and hot (mostly over 40?C).
The main travel time is during winter (from October to April) as even then the climate is mild and sunny (so summer clothes are suffisient).

The currency:

The currency of the VAE is the Dirham, divided in 100 fils.
You can exchange money at exchange brokers, which is generally favorable. To exchange money at banks and hotels is less favorable. But credit cards are accepted everywhere anyway !

Parks and Gardens:

Around Dubai are numerous public parks and gardens offering a peaceful opposite to the urban life.
They offer attractiv picnic spots and children's play areas. The largest parks and gardens of the city are Jumeirah Beach Park, Dubai Creekside Park, Mushrif Park and Safa Park. But many smaller parks are throughout the city.

Dubai city trip:

If you ever visit Dubai, you should make a Dubai city trip (proposed by Emir Tours) which costs 105,-Dirham.
You'll visit the most important places (the Clock Tower, the Burj Al Arab, Dubai Creek, Jumeirah Mosquee, the Gold and Spice Souks, the museum,...) during a day and this gives you the possibility to visit later again your preferred places.
Jumeirah Beach

At the beach

This is one the pictures taken at Jumeirah Beach next to our hotel resort.

To see more pictures of the resort and the beach, have a look at my Dubai travelogue.

Dubai Creek, Al-Khor

The Dubai Creek is the most fascinating part of the city and offers a picturesque sight of Dubai's tradings.

The Creek, a natural sea-water inlet devides Dubai in two parts, Deira and Bur Dubai.

An attractive way to view theCreek with all the dhows is an "abra", one of the water taxis crossing the Creek. They leave every few minutes. You absolutely should have a ride !!
