Seat of Political Power

Everybody is aware that this city is the centre of United States Politics. Well, it shows it in everything you see here, whether it is the White House or Capitol Hill. If you like monuments, monumental buildings and a lot of history, then a week here just isn't enough. Just remember though, that there is a very good chance that you have seen it all before in the media, and so the impact will be lessened a little because of it.

Plenty To Involve Yourself In

Where to begin...
(Alphabetically...)

Arlington Cemetery.
Capitol Hill.
Iwo Jima Statue. (Arlington)
J.Edgar Hoover Building (FBI).
Mall.
Museum After Museum!!!
National Holocaust Museum.
Natural History Museum.
Pentagon.
Smithsonian Institute.
Treasury.
Washington Monument
White House.

This is just a taste of the major stuff that would probably appeal to everyone.
The best part is that they are all within walking distance of one another, so little money needs be spent on travel. (hurrah!)
The worst part is that there used to be guided tours around most of these places, but since 11th sept 2001, security has been understandably increased, making visiting these places a bit more difficult.

The Little Things...

It's funny really, but I tended to notice the little things that gave Washington D.C it's unique characteristics. Things like that some of the streets had a letter instead of a name; that there were public water fountains dotted about freely in the streets or that the parks were immaculately groomed (I was sure someone used scissors...)
All of this added up to create one large impression.
