Kuwait Before

So another exhibition in a gulf country and I was on my way to Kuwait.
If you were a kid like me in the 90's, Kuwait has a different meaning for you. It was the ground where another episode of Star Wars took place and the great thing was this show was shown on TV's live. Good allied forces were fighting against the bad guys, to save Kuwaiti people from torture, killings and rapings and we both kids and adults watched this magnificient war, at our living rooms with excitiment. Still many of us has the image of the bombs hitting the buildings, demolishing it with clones inside.
Then came the new millenium. We were almost forgetting small Kuwait, but something happened in New York which pissed of the super power of our world. A target was needed to soothe her anger. But terror like always was invisible. Something solid to punch was needed and so Iraq was chosen as a target, and this time Kuwait appeared in the news as the base of the whole invasion.
This time for most of us, at least for the ones who have brains and conscience, it was a little different then a Star Wars show. The good guys of 90's were actually greedy fortune hunters, the poor Kuwaitis were actually their collabrators and the 1.5 millions of clones who died during this show were actually human beings.
So that was what Kuwait meant for me before my 5 days of journey started.

Kuwait Now

Kuwait city is founded on a peninsula and there is a highway which makes a semi circle between the city and the sea. As the curves are not that sharp, while you are riding you can't feel you are making a semi circle. And this gives you the feeling Kuwait is a very big city with so many skyscapers. Actually what you see is the same buildings and city center from different views. You may understand this when you climb to Kuwait towers which is the symbol and most impressive building of the city.
Like all the gulf countries Kuwait is developing fast. You see constructions, sky-scapers built with interesting architectures everywhere. This richness is of course coming from the oil wealth. And city overall is actually not a very big place and besides the city there are a few towns scattered around the city in the desert. When you think the size of this small country compared to the size of whole world, having the 10 percent of the world oil in this small land can be compared like the luck of a man who wons the great price in a lottery 10 times again and again.
For some reason Kuwait gave me the feeling of a relaxed and quiet city where one may live a peaceful family life. And I guess hardly any of us would ever heard of this fishermen town unless the 10 percent of the world oil was there.
