"The heart of Burundi" Rutovu by Rrroel
Rutovu Travel Guide: 1 reviews and 2 photos
Rutovu is a weird place. Since 1966, 3 of Burundi's presidents have been natives of this small village in the South of the country. This means it's not the poorest place in the country. The last one, Pierre Buyoya, still lives there and has a good hotel.
This mere fact is of course not enough to justify a visit to Rutovu.
What's of more importance, however, is that the southernmost source of the river Nile is located in this very village. Next to a small pyramid is a plastic tube, which forms the beginning of the long river. Possibly one of the very few places in the world where it's safe to drink Nile water.
A few kilometers further is a pleasant hot water source. Nice enough to bathe, but I'm a bit more suspicious here about the water quality.
