Burundi is a jungle paradise nestled among the mountains of the rift valley. It sits on lake Tanganika, the second deepest freshwater lake in the world (over 5,000 ft) Bujumbura is the Capital of Burundi. Vibrant colors and activity bring the dust covered roads of Buj to life. |
| | The country is ranked among the poorest in the world, yet hunger is not one of their major problems. The climate and mountain soils provide them with 3 harvest a year. The lake with a good, although not steady, supply of fish. |
The country has been in a devastating war for 10 tears. The news reports state that it is between the Tutsie and the Hutu rebels. This is an over simplification of the war between the northern and southern mafias. While I was there the Tutsie regime had such a strong hold on the city that it may have been the only safe place in the country. If the war ever stops Bujumbura will be a jewl of tourism for central Africa. I for one will be first in line to take my family to see this spectacularly beautiful part of the world and it's wonderful people and rich customs. | | |
