my wife and kids,
going back to Albina,Suriname
from St Laurent,French Guyana.
it's a short trip across the river
in an old canoe-type boat with an outboard engine.
cost is about 10,000 sf for boat ride. (about $5 usa)
the bus back to paramaribo , from
Albina takes over 2 hours,
and is 10,000 sf per adult.
the roads are bumpy and in poor
condition, but the views are beautiful.
watch out for bandits!!!

Best way around Paramaribo is by bus , one stop, or as far as the bus goes? same price!!!
less than $1 USA (march 2002)

taxis are available too ,
you can haggle for the right price
.Paramaribo is built on a reef.

you will find food stalls in the streets, dehydrated fish, fruit and veges, also food markets, near the river, these markets contain
fresh fish , fruit and vegetables,
clothes, shoes , almost everything.
and not far away are the buses
to Albina.
paramaribo has a nice beer called parbo bier.
there is also kfc, Mcdonalds,
Popeye, and chinese restaurants.
the average diet consists of meat and rice, dark green leafy ,bitter vegetables.
sopropo is a typical bitter vegetable.
Fish is popular. Roti is also
popular.
sometimes there are street parties,
where the atmosphere is electric.
Suriname has cultural diversity.
marvel at the dutch archetecture,
turn the corner and maybe you will be looking at a colourful hindu church.
OR a christian (protestant) church.
The heat in suriname (average 27degrees metric) is really energy sapping .
try a sweet cordial ice treat .
served in a plastic bag with a straw. many flavours, made by the locals.
