Tanzania is mostly known for it's famous Parks like Serengeti or Ngorongoro, for it's Paradise Island of Zanzibar and for the presence of Africa's summit: Mt. Kilimanjaro. And yes, if you can afford it, you shouldn't miss any of these highlights.
Outside the usual tourist circuit you'll find a different Tanzania, and it costs time, effort and motivation to get into that, but it's so much worth it!
A great help is the Cultural Tourism Programme, a tourism initiative involving 15 villages all over Tanzania, that aims to benefit small local communities who organize excellent excursions in their surroundings.
I've tried to get impressions of "both worlds" in 7 weeks' time, and this page is an overview.%f*

Very good page about Tanzania. I am thinking of going there in summer...
Really good, the type of tips I look for at VT ... I did asked days before about LP, to see if it was good ... thanks for the Cultural Tourism Program
thanks for the information on the Cultural Tourism Programme - worth considering and glad you have brought it to a wider audience. Cheers
I`m impressed with your African travels... and especially yr Rwanda experience.
Tanzania sounds like a fascinating place to visit. Have really enjoyed reading your tips & now must explore Tanzania further with you, but where to start?
I am very impressed and also sad, for not seeing more of this great Country. but one has to be contented. your helpful tips and outstanding fotos makes it a great page. thanx Peter
If the trains in darkest Africa can serve good food, why can't Amtrak? I bet the Tanzania trains get there on time at a better rate too. Good expose, Peter. You balance the facts with personal experiences very well. Keep it up!
The Local Cultural Tourism plan sounds like a great idea! I was surprised to hear your impressions of the Serengeti National Park, the number of wildlife and not being too many people! Maybe there are still unspoiled places to visit, it gives me hope.
