Lake Toba is great for doing nothing, lie in your hammock, read a book or watch a video, go for a swim and enjoy the luxury of Tuk Tuk, where you find an abundance of cool places to stay, to eat, libraries, internet, bars, prostitutes, drugs, videorooms, shops etc.etc.
If this is all a little too much for you, to experience the beauty of Lake Toba you're not obliged to stay in Tuk Tuk at all, since there are a lot of quiet and remote places to stay on the rest of the island as well!
But the nicest thing to do, in my opinion, is to pull on your hiking boots and expore the traditional Batak Toba villages to meet the friendly peolple on Pulau Samosir...
