Sculpture "The Feast of Muses" - Vilnius

Pronounced "Ville News"

The picture is of the National Drama Theatre. Built in 1981 on the site of an older early 20th century theatre building (architects Algimantas and Vytautas Nasvytis). This sculpture above the entry is called "The Feast of Muses" and shows figures of Drama, Tragedy and Comedy (sculptor Stanislovas Kuzma, 1981).

The geographical centre of Europe is near Vilnius! It was discovered by French National Geographic Institute, so nobody can take if from them ("it's" = Centre). The point, 50* 54 Latitude, 25* 19 longitude, Is located 20 minutes North of Vilnius town centre.

Cathedral (Basilica)

It is assumed that in pagan times an altar, a sacred fire or even a Perkunas sanctuary was located on the site of the present Cathedral of St. Stanislaus and St. Vladislaus in the Sventaragis valley. Afer being baptized in 1251, Grand Duke Mindaugas probably built the first cathedral on this site. It was a brick building with a massive square tower on the west side as you can see in this picture. Its remains-foundations and glazed tile floor-were discovered in 1973-76 in the vaults of the present Cathedral.
