Independence, seat of Montgomery County, is a wonderful town in the southeast region of Kansas. Independence's population was 9,846 in 2000; Montgomery County's was 36,252.
Independence and the area are home to Neewollah, an annual, fall festival; Riverside Park and Ralph Mitchell Zoo; Elk City State Park and Lake; Little House on the Prairie; and more!
