Persian splendor - Shiraz

Persian splendor

Persepolis

Persepolis is a UNESCO world heritage site. It was the ceremonial capital of Persia until Alexander the Great's troops sacked it in the fourth century B.C. Its grandeur is still very much visible. The black stone carvings are well preserved and there is an interesting museum where the Queen palace used to stand. The views with the mountain background are spectacular on a clear day.

Nightfall at Saadi Masoleum - Shiraz

Nightfall at Saadi Masoleum

Saadi Masoleum

The resting place of one of the great pillars of Iranian culture. His work "Golestan" (the rose garden) is a masterpiece that has stood the test of time. The Masoleum and its garden is a serene place that makes you feel comfortable and invites you to linger for as much time as you can. As everywhere else there, is a welcoming tea house with a fresh water well where river fish make visits. Best to visit in late afternoon. Entrance fee for foreigners is IRR 30000

Paying our respects to Mr. Hafez - Shiraz

Paying our respects to Mr. Hafez

Hafez Mausoleum

Hafez is held in high esteem by Iranians as one of the most important contibutors to Persian culture. The Mausoleum is an interesting place where you can see Iranians coming to pay their respects to the great poet. Be respectful of the place and you will be rewarded. There is an excellent tea house, as well as an interesting shop.
My second visit to the place was on a cool night in October, with the Pakistan Nights giving a wonderful aroma and the lighting making the place look even more beautiful. But the most moving experience is to see the local people bringing flowers to the poet and reading his verses next to his resting place.

Address: Shiraz.
