Waverunner rentals on the beach - Cancún

Waverunner rentals on the beach

Rent a Waverunner

Rent a waverunner (jet ski) through your hotel activity desk. Our hotel had them for rent right on our beach and we were able to barter the price down a little. The waverunners available to us could seat two so the 4 of us rented two and split up - taking turns driving. The told us how far out we could ride them and we spent the afternoon jumping boats wakes and driving around the ocean. It was an exhilarating way to spend the afternoon. You can rent them in half hour or hour long increments and they give you a brief tutorial before letting you out in the open water.

Equipment: Rent the waverunners through your hotel activities desk and they'll provide all the equipment, including the life jackets.

Hanging out in the Hotel Pool Swimming Review

If you feel like escaping from the sun and the saltwater cool off by taking a little dip in your hotel pool. Our hotel had two pools and the main pool features a swim-up bar. They always had a volleyball net set up at one end of the main pool so people could start up a game. And the main pool was big enough that even when people were playing there was room to swim undisturbed.

Equipment: Just a bathing suit - and a pool volleyball if you're up for a friendly match.

Coral Reef off Isla Mujeres - Cancún

Coral Reef off Isla Mujeres

Snorkeling in the Caribbean Snorkeling Review

There are many organized snorkel trips throughout Cancun. The "hot spots" include Isla Mujeres, Xel Ha and X-Carat. Kerry and I brought our own equipment hoping to get a little snorkeling in around our hotel. To our dismay, although the water is clear and the sand is white there wasn't any aquatic life directly off the hotel zone coast. The reefs aren't around here so don't bother. The snorkel trip we booked through Garrafon was a little disappointing, although there is a reef and there was some sea life here to observe. I'm a certified diver so I was hoping for a little more vibrancy and color. The tide was also a little rough on the day we went out and we had to wear life jackets so we couldn't do any skin diving off Isla Mujeres. I hear that Cozumel is the place to go for diving and snorkeling. Next time I think I would try Xel Ha or X-Carat for a snorkel trip.

Equipment: If you go on an organized trip or an eco park like Xel Ha, Garrafon or X-Carat they will provide your snorkel equipment. If you want to try snorkeling from your hotel beach (not recommended we couldn't see anything) bring your own mask and snorkel.

Kerry taking a dip in the ocean - Cancún

Kerry taking a dip in the ocean

Caribbean bathtub Swimming Review

The crystal blue Caribbean waters gently call out from every hotel in the hotel zone. I hope you packed your swim suit! Leave your troubles behind and hop in. Year round the ocean temperatures are warm an inviting... think bathtub. At our beach the sandbar extends out relatively far and we were protected from the rough surf. The result was nearly glass and always serene. If you're feeling adventurous swim out past the buoys where the water starts to get deeper, just watch out for wave runners and boats. Tell me, can you think of a better way to waste away your day?

Equipment: Just your favorite bathing suit!

Flying high above Cancun - Cancún

Flying high above Cancun

Parasailing

There are several companies that provide parasailing excursions. Check with the activities desk at your hotel or one of the many tour kiosks around the hotel zone to book. Try and bargain with them to bring down the price, but expect to pay around $40 US for a 15 minute sail. We were picked up right from our hotel's beach and shuttled out to the parasail boat. You can choose to fly solo or tandem. Parasailing gives you an unique and breathtaking view of the Caribbean and Cancun. I took my waterproof camera up with me.

Equipment: The parasail company will provide all the equipment you need for the ride. It's safe, fun, peaceful and beautiful soaring high above Cancun. While watching your friends you also get to enjoy the boat ride.

Address: Check with your hotel activity desk.
