Cervarese Santa Croce

by Elweb - last update: Nov 22, 2007

the fort of Cervarese St Croce
OK… that was a really odd day for me. I left Romania with the thought I would never see how the people from the past lived. There is in Romania an annual medieval festival, held at Sighisoara, but I never had the opportunity to actually go there. That made me really sad, because I am interested in this sword of things. And than, out of nowhere… BOOM! Cervarese Santa Croce.

My brother took me there to see the festival I have missed for so long in Romania. I don’t know if that kind of gathering is an annual one or was just a one-time, but it sure make me want to go there next year just to check it out. Cervarese Santa Croce is a small village, or better said is a place where the inhabitants have gathered to live, for one day, in the spirit of the past. The small fort that is there, was surrounded by people wearing medieval clothes, showing some of the jobs done 500 years ago with the ‘machines’ from that period of time. There were knights riding horses, prepared for battle, with armors and swords, there were attackers and defenders of the fort, there were the beer-makers, candle-makers, monks and squires, even a dentist ready to make you loose your teeth, practicing as the dentists from 1500 did.
yeaph, that's him, allright
But, what impressed me the most was the executioner, witch photo I taken quickly and impressed by his voice ‘wanna lose your head, boy?’. After the 11 pm, the fires started, the merchants entered the fort, and from the forrest began to show the attackers. I don’t really know who won, because we had to go home (my brother had to wake up early to go to work) but, at the news on TV I saw that the attack was followed by a big feast in the open space surrounding the fort.
