Everything and Everyone...

...are not always what they seem. Seriously.
observe everything + everyone, closely...
It's the 21st century not the 16th, so the days of bullfights and public executions on the Plaza are long gone. But you will still enjoy the spirited atmosphere, no doubt about that. Wander around Plaza Mayor early enough in the morning, when the shopkeepers and restauranteurs are just setting up for the day, and you almost have the arena to yourself. Notice the wonderful allegorical murals on the wall under the clocktower. You're on your own movie set here...(you're the director, you're the star, you choose the film...)

Pros:"the history, the art, the buzz of activity..."

There are snakes in Madrid? Very good page with amusing commentary.

Not sure it was the same place, but my father tried one of these paella-for-tourists restaurants and hated it! Lucky me, I was buying CDs at the Fnac nearby...
