The best of times, the worst of times Ever since I can remember, since reading the stories and seeing the films, of the jet set and the royalty and movie stars and heavenly blue sea, I knew I wanted to visit this place. And here I was, at last. I arrived on a clear, warm and sunny Sun morning in mid-Sept 2001. I didn't spend too much time in Nice itself since I was trying to see as much of the Provencal area and of nearby glittering Cannes and Monaco as I could. That explains why I don't have too many photos at all of this beautiful town. Then again, I spent my last afternoon here, running around trying to find English-language TV, once I learned the news. I distinctly remember being politely turned away from the chic Hotel Negresco. They had CNN but I wasn't a guest there, so they expressed their cordial regrets. I ended up spending frantic, quality time at the internet cafe, learning what bits and pieces that I could, and feeling lost and small, an ocean away from home on that 11Sep. The rest, as they say, is history. |

Tugboatguy Fri Sep 2, 2005 00:08 UTC Cristina, Loved my stay in Nice, great meals & wine at La Chaumiere Savoyard. On my 9/11/2001 -weekend I was on the boat at Catalina Island's Isthmus Cove but had color TV of disaster. Felt as you did. Doug | travelgourmet Mon Aug 29, 2005 03:18 UTC I'll be in Cannes in 2 weeks. Nice is a must stop, as is old town market.
