True, i never really hiked in those mountains. Though i did small 2-3 hour trails but one day i plan to go back and really hike. The mountains deserve such time. They're so impressive and i know i haven't seen them at their best from a car. But unofrtunately late autumn till early spring isn't the best time to go hiking. Especially if one's as unexperienced as i am.

So i explored most of the mountains by car. Still a very nice experience i can assure you. And taking some of the roads can be a real adventure. On the last trip (retezat) we had several roads that we wished we had not gotten ourselves into. But turning wasn't an option either so we just kept our fingers crossed hoping it might get better soon. The car managed and luckily i had a chauffeur with very good skills and loads of experience on driving along (too) muddy and steep dirt roads.
