Gouda is a city that is most famous for its Cheese and the stained glass windows in the St. Janskerk (St. John's Church). And it has one of the most beautiful town halls of the Netherlands.

But while i walked around i found that Gouda has so many nice buildings. Many of them are recognised as monuments as to protect the city's appearance.

I was a bit put off by the huge window facades that certain chains of shops and restaurants like to put up in the shopping streets. Somehow it seemed less appropriate here then in other places. But apparently progress and all that was more interesting than keeping these streets nice. But maybe i would think so as well if i was living in Gouda. After all, after a while you don't notice the buildings that much and do notice the lack of comfort. The thing i did like about the shopping area is that it was mainly a pedestrians-only area.

Nice page about a nice place. Seeing the town hall bathing in sunlight is worth a trip.
