Inga took us to Fatal to celebrate her birthday... . And what a good choice. When our neighbours got their food, all of us couldn't help but stare. It was a whole tower of food. And i swear i saw another 'dish (read huge plate) passing by with a whole chicken on top...

We also got easily enough food for ourselves and we had the 'smaller' dishes And it was delicious.

Fatal can be very busy thoug so it is possible you have to wait or even come back another night..

2005 update: We found it again. And also this time it was very very crowded. But we got seats for all 5 of us. The food still tasted great and even the hungarian among us left very satisfied.

After asking if people ever finished an entree and a main course the waiter told us that is someone did they offered him/her a dessert for free.

This nice place was mostly populated with a mid twenties public when we came in. But did change a bit to a more all round public when we left. We weren't hungry yet. Though i must say, they had some amasing sweet stuff on offer...

And the terrass is really nice too. Though closed by the time we came here. It started to get a bit chilly in the evenings..

We found this restaurant when we started to explore the city from our Hotel on the first full day. And decided to go back here on teh 2nd. And it was a very good choice. Not many tourists, mostly local people on the day we were in. And the food was very good. Very good price\quality and very friendly service.

The restaurant is open every day from 12.00 till 22.00

When you're hungry you start to look for a place to eat. We had walked all day already and didn't want to go lookign for a nice place to eat for the rest of the evening. So we consulted the small guidebook that i had gotten from the travel agent and we choose this place.

Apperenty the windows in the ceiling are famous internationally and are protected heritage. And they were nice. The rest of the restaurant gave me the feeling that they were trying a bit too hard to give it that real authentic image. Though i saw several Hungarians having dinner here. The food was good. Nothing really special. The life music was nice when it was in the back ground.. All in all it was an ok place. But not as i was led to believe by the guidebook

Gerbeaud House: A must have been..

  • Restaurant Name: Gerbeaud cafe

Gerbauds is a famous local place. And before you order coffee, you need to walk past the displays and try to decide what to take with that coffee... It is a bit overrated but much fun to be there and they have an excellent terrass right on the square in the middle of Pest-centre.. Who could ask for more then to sip coffee, watch and be watched..

We were a bit in a hurry but wanted to eat something good before going on the night train and in the old jewish part of town we found this place. We were the only customers since it was rather early. But we ate very well and enjoyed the wine and the food a lot.
