Castelmoron d'Albret is the smallest community in France. It totals a number of 60 give or take 1 when a family moves, someone is born or of course when someone dies...
It is a strange village since it started out as a village without agricultural lands. It was just the village. And it still is. The area of Castelmoron is 3.54 hectare (apparently more or less similar to 3 football fields). So definitely a small village.
It used to be a fortified village. It is build on top of a rock and in the old days all the cellars of the houses used to be connected so people could come to the defense walls (the cellar walls) really quick.
It is also a very old village. There used to be a chateau which isnīt there anymore. But that was the origin of the village. It had some importance for a while when the bailiff took up his seat here.
Even in the last century it still had a school and even a cinema for a while. The school is nowadays a pottery. And you can find the village hall here. |
| | It was fun walking through this little settlement. I wasnīt even the only tourist there. But when i got out of my car, which i had parked below on a small car parky thing next to the road, the 3 men that where working there all stopped doing whatever they were doing and just stared at me. But that might have also something to do with the car i was driving... A landrover V8i and the fact that it wasnīt a guy driving it... I donīt know. All i know is that they gave me (or my car) the same amount of attention when i needed to turn when i drove away... Very funny. |
| | The road that lies next to Castelmoron. A few 100 meters to the right one can park the car. |
