Although i have a few pictures and comments here on other towns, the main places are in a region called entre-deux-mers (between 2 seas) and refers to the presence of the Dordogne and the Garonne.
It is an area where wine plays a major part and you´ll find wine-places everywhere. And of course many many places where you can taste it..
It is a very interesting region though most tourists don't come here. It is either considered to far (and then they stop in the Dordogne area), to unknown (and therefor of little interest) or not considered as wine-region (and those people head to the bordeaux region.. So even though you might find fellow travellers here, they're usually very few in numbers.
I forgot where i took the picture of this church. I really liked the way it was build. And i remember that it was a very small village. St. Jean-something... I found it back on the next trip... It's a small place called Saint Jean de Blaignac. On the way between Sauveterre and St-Emilion.
All over the region you 'll find these kind of church 'towers', a wall with the bells hanging in spared openings. I've asked around to find out why the church 'towers' are all like that but so far i have not found an answer.
All along the way you can find gems like this castle. We couldn?' figure out whether it was open for visits or if it was private property.. But just imagining living in a place like this made my day..
Even though the region is not very well known among tourists except for the coastline, Bordeaux and st-Emilion it has much to offer. There it has been a very contested area between France and England for years. Hence all the old defensive castles you'll find everywhere which were mostly build between 1000 and 1300 roughly. It also explains the many fortified towns, mills and churches. But it is also the area where caves have been found with prehistoric drawings and where you can find the grave of world-famous painter Henri Toulouse-Lautrec.
- In a nutshell:Beautiful area to visit and less touristy then other parts along the Dordogne

Pierre Chariol and his family are wonderful people. Try his traditional St. Emilion which is sold on the estate.
