Beautiful Banff National Park REVISITED

Beautiful Moraine Lake, one of my favourites!
The last time I visited Banff National Park was at the end of September - beginning October of 2006. During this visit we enjoyed the beautiful fall time in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. We had sunshine, snow, rain and some days were cold. But it was such a rejuvenation trip and I got the chance to take some awesome early morning shots!

Banff National Park is one of the most famous National Parks around the world! Why you might think?? The answer is quite simple...the scenery is stunning, the colors of the lake are so blue, there is endless wilderness and wildlife and so much more. You haven't seen anything quite like it in your life and there are so many different activities to do in this park. From hiking to rafting, sightseeing to kayaking or even taking a helicopter flight!! You just have to see it yourself to believe it. Well, I always thought that those nice postcards from those blue lakes were enhanced and that nothing like that could exist...until I saw it with my own eyes.

WOW, I was blown away by the color of those lakes and the mountain scenery...I couldn't believe that nature can create such wonderful things!! No wonder people from all over the world come and visit this National Park. It's not only the scenery and lakes that make this park so beautiful, but also the variety of things to do and things to see.

The chances are great that you encounter wild life on your travels. You might see elk, bighorn sheep, black and grizzly bear, and caribou. The bighorn sheep are seen a lot along the side of the road, so keep in mind that they're there and be careful when driving by as you don't know what they are going to do. Hiking is also very popular here as there is an endless variety of hiking trails.

Banff National Park has so much to offer, too many to name...so here is a short list of the most popular and spectacular spots in Banff National Park:

*Banff Town : this cozy little town has lots to offer. You'll find tons of restaurants, hotels, shops and much more.

*Sulphur Mountain : The top of this mountain is reached by gondola,. The summit is at 2,281 meters (7,486 feet) above sea level. Don't miss this one as you will enjoy nature on one of our three outdoor observation terraces. For the adventurous, there are trails along beautiful mountain ridges with panoramic views.

*Upper Hot Springs : These hot springs might come in handy after a long day of hiking and exploring the park. A great place relax in the pool or the steam rooms at the end of the day.

*Lake Louise : This would be the most famous lake in Banff National Park (and also the busiest lake). Lake Louise has a wonderful setting with the plateau of six glaciers in the back, the beautiful Chateau in the front and wonderful green colored water in between.

*Moraine Lake : This is my favorite lake! What a color and what a beautiful setting. You can walk up a rock pile to have a closer look over the lake. This deep blue colored lake is surrounded by ten peaks which make it so impressive to look at. Here you can also rent a canoe, visit the Moraine Lake Lodge or just walk around the lake.

Banff Town, a cozy town in the Rockies

The town of Banff is famous for its beautiful setting, but there is more to this place then just the beautiful setting. It's a great place to stay for a few days and from here you can explore Banff National Park. All the main attraction are close to Banff and makes it easy to make this your base camp! : )

Other things to see here are performancing arts, wonderful galleries, and international festivals. Banff is also the home to a vibrant arts and culture scene. A lovely place to spend a day or even 2 weeks!

Lakes, waterfalls and mountain scenery

That's what Banff National Park is about. Lakes, waterfalls, mountain scenery and also lots of wildlife to be seen. This park has so much to offer, but then again it is the most famous park in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. So, keep in mind that it might get busy sometimes.

The busiest hours at most tourist attractions is anywhere between 10.30am and 3.00pm. If you like to enjoy the parked with no so much crowds, go earlier or later and you'll be okay!

Pros:"World Class scenery and blue-green lakes like you have never seen before. There is something beautiful to see around every corner or everywhere you look."
Cons:"Some of the most populair tourist attractions can become very crowded, try to avoid the peak times (summer between 10.30am and 3.00pm)"
In A Nutshell:"Wonderful National Park with world class mountain scenery, lakes, waterfalls, wildlife and so much more!! Don't miss this park when you visit Canada!"

If you're able, the one hour uphill walk to Lake Agnes gets you away from the hordes to a spectacular hanging valley and lake.
