Nature park with wonderful hiking trails | Beautiful Garibaldi Lake after sunrise |
This wonderful Provincial Park is located in southwestern British Columbia near Vancouver and Whistler. It's a very frequently visited Provincial Park with about 480,000 acres to explore. In this park you'll find volcanic peaks, alpine meadows, wonderful lakes and wildlife. This park is one of Canada's most accessible and spectacular wilderness park and has five main recreational areas: Diamond Head, Black Tusk, Cheakamus Lake, Singing Pass and Wedgemount Lake...these are all located in the western portion of the park.
There also plenty of facilities including over 90 km (56 mi) of hiking trails, 196 wilderness walk-in campsites at 5 separate locations, 23 km (14 mi) ski trails, 4 overnight alpine shelters, 6 day use shelters, drinking water, pit toilets, and visitor programs. Fires are not permitted in the park, so visitors must use carry-in gas campstoves.
This park is located about 1 1/2 to 2 hours from Vancouver and very close to the Squamish Area. Most access places are located around Whistler and Pemberton. It's a great place for weekends or longer vacations, as there are plenty of trails to explore, good fishing in alpine lakes, as well as mountaineering, ski touring, and photography opportunities.

Some great hiking trails Of course without a doubt this park is very popular for hiking in the summer. Hikes go from easy shorter trails to harder multi day treks. One of the most popular hikes is the hike to Garibaldi Lake which you can do in one day (there and back) or you stay overnight and camp and go on to somewhere else the next day.
Black Tusk is popular for climbing...it's highest point is 2,315 m (7,595 ft) and the last part of the climb is rocky, steep and narrow which definitely requires some experience! But beginners can do it to, although they are advised to use rope for this section.
Another pleasant hike is the hike to Cheamus Lake. It's a shorter and easy hike with great views over Cheakamus Lake and the old growth forest you hike through. For more details read my travel tips! Enjoy! |

Wildlife and Wildflowers In spring and summer wildflowers are plenty to find on the beautiful alpine meadows of this provincial park. Wildflowers that you can find here include: Indian paintbrush, arnica, lupine, and snow lily abound in the alpine meadows.
Garibaldi is home to many wild animals too such as mountain goats, deer, grizzly bears and black bears, but these are not as easily seen. More likely to be seen are squirrels, chipmunks, marmots, and Canada blue jays. |
