First of all, thank you for dropping by on my travel page!

Vancouver and Whistler will host the Winter Olympics in 2010. It's still a little while, but it will be here before we know it! For detailed info about the games you can click on the following link: Official website of Winter Olympics 2010 in Vancouver

*Welcome to my Vancouver travel page. I live in Vancouver since April 3, 2000. I moved here from Belgium, Europe. The reason for my move to Vancouver was my fiance, who is Canadian and lives here. And in the meantime he is my husband!! In the first year I have experienced being a tourist here as I couldn't work yet, so I had lots of time to explore this city while my husband was at work.

Now that I have been here for over 9 years I really feel at home and a local Vancouverite! Sometimes I still feel like a tourist when I am wondering downtown and when I find places that I haven't seen yet. But hey, that happens when you live in a place that has so much to offer! I would like to share my travel experiences with all of you that I initially experienced as a tourist and after that as a local. This page will be mainly about in and around downtown, but also a little further than just downtown Vancouver.

*Vancouver belongs to the Vancouver Coast and Mountains region. This region includes the following different places: Vancouver, Whistler area, the Sunshine Coast and the Fraser Valley! It's a great place for skiers/snowboarders and other snow lovers in the winter, it has lots of outdoor activity to offer in any season. It's also a great place to see wildlife, enjoy nature at its best, and of course don't miss the many great shops, restaurants, nightlife and much much more. There is a great diversity in scenery, you'll see the mountains, rainforest, rivers, the Pacific Ocean, beaches, inlets, Islands and there are also good places for scuba diving. Besides all that you will also find museums, art galleries and some interesting heritage sites. This region presents many different things to visitors.

*Visit all the popular and less popular attractions of downtown Vancouver and area. Enjoy the beaufiful "Sea to Sky region", which includes world-famous Whistler. Whether you're want to experience the hustle and bustle of the city, or you want to relax by the Pacific Ocean, take a walk on the beach, or enjoy the wilderness and explore the mountains, you'll find it all and much more in Vancouver and the surrounding area!

*You will find info about downtown Vancouver and it's surrounded area's on these pages! You can read more about the rest of BC on my British Columbia VT pages!

Don't forget to check my travelogues for more info and some great pictures!!

Vancouver, city of diversity

*Vancouver is known as one of the most beautiful cities in the world and one of the best places to live. I read somewhere in a magazine or in the paper that Vancouver was rated the best place to live for years and year...don't know if it's still on top?

I can see why it's a good place to live. There's a great variety of outdoor activities and many relaxing places to get away from the busy city. The Greater Vancouver district (also known as the Lower Mainland), with a population of almost 2 million people exist out of the following cities: Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, New Westminster, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Surrey, Delta, Langley, Richmond and White Rock. These areas are populated with half of B.C's inhabitants.

*Vancouver is Canada's third largest city and is located at the Pacific Ocean on a peninsula which is surrounded by the water and mountains which gives this place it's beautiful scenery. The climate is also very good here, mild all year round with nice warm summer days and colder rainy winters. You will hear a lot that it rains very much in Vancouver (especially in the winter), but it's not all that bad as you might think!

*It's considered a pretty clean and safe city with a big choice of shops, outdoor activities (hiking, walking, kayaking, sailing, skiing on the local mountains in the winter). Walking around Stanley Park is a favorite thing to do for locals and for tourists. It extends from the city centre of Vancouver almost to the North Shore. Vancouver is the perfect place for a holiday, or from here you can leave for a cruise to Alaska or the Caribbean and so much more!

Vancouver, city by the ocean

*With wonderful views of the mountains and the ocean around each corner, downtown Vancouver is one of the most picturesque cities in the world. Walk along it's Robson street, the most popular shopping street. Experience Chinatown with it different kind of buildings, walk on the beaches of English Bay and the seawall of Stanley Park, enjoy a walk Gastown with the old steam clock and it's many gift shops. Look out for some Hollywood film sets as Vancouver is used for many big Hollywood movies and shows. That's why you might hear that Vancouver is called "Hollywood North". Here are some examples of shows and movies that were/are filmed here: "The X-Files", "Dark Angel", "Stargate-SG1", "The 6th Day", "Kiss of the Dragon", "Small Ville" and many more. Then there is also the Canada Place, the stadiums, the Harbour Lookout, the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, Science World, the Vancouver Art Gallery and much more! All of these attractions are located within minutes from the city centre.

Vancouver is also popular in the winter for it's winter activities. There are 3 local mountains where you can do any type of winter sport. There is Grouse Mountain, most famous for it's stunning views over the city and fresh powder snow. Grouse Mountain is accessible by skyride...this is a big airtram that will take you up to the top of the mountain. Mount Seymour and Cypress Mountain are famous too and you also get wonderful views from the top of these mountains. As you can see...Vancouver has lots to offer. Enjoy it!
