Beautiful Vancouver Island

Aerial view over Vancouver Island
The picture above was taken from a seaplane while traveling from Vancouver to Tofino. This is the general landscape you will see around Vancouver Island.

Vancouver Island was named by Captain George Vancouver in the early 1790's as he was exploring Canada's west coast. He discribed this place as followed: "To Describe the beauties of this region, will, on some future occasion be a grateful task to the pen of a skillful panegyrist. The serenity of the climate, the innumerable pleasing landscapes , and abundant fertility that nature puts forth, require only to be enriched by the industry of man with villages, mansions, cottages and other buildings, to render it the most lovely country that can be imagined."

The most popular places that people visit here are Victoria and Tofino. Victoria is the Capital of British Columbia and a beautiful city with a British feel to it. This city is located at the most southern tip of Vancouver Island and offers a gorgeous Inner Harbour overlooking the Empress Hotel and the Legislative building which are beautiful landmarks of this city. You can get away to the beautiful parks and gardens in and around the city or enjoy some of the beaches.

Tofino on the other hand is known for its nature. It's the gateway to Pacific Rim National Park with lush rainforest, long white beaches, whale watching opportunities and a great place to explore the rugged west coast.

Over the whole Island you will find endless sandy beaches, enclosed coves and inlets which are a paradise for sea kayakers as the water here is very calm. You can even kayak among the whales here. You'll find an abundance of wildlife including orcas and other sea creatures, bears, eagles, cougars and so many more.

There is a wide variety for outdoor activities, camping and so much more. It's a total different world out here which sometimes reminds of you of a tropical island. Definitely a place you want to visit!

Victoria, the Capital of BC

Victoria is a beautiful city on Vancouver Island and a very popular place to visit! The wild of the Pacific coast and the many possibilities for outdoor activities make this a very attractive city to visit. It has some sort of British look to it with beautiful buildings, a beautiful entertaining Inner Harbour and many wonderful gardens

Visiting Victoria from Vancouver is a nice experience, a drive out to the ferries, a ride on the ferry with gorgeous scenery, a drive from the ferries to Victoria with more scenery to end up in this beautiful city by the water. The Empress Hotel is a beautiful land mark and also the Legislative Building. There are several parks, gardens and beaches, so one can visit several things here. There is something for everybody in this lovely city!

On Vancouver Island there is tons and tons of unspoiled nature to be found. Tofino and it's Pacific Rim National Park are most popular. It's located on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. It's a very picturesque fishing village surrounded by beautiful forested islands, beautiful beaches, endless ocean and Pacific Rim National Park.

Then there is also Telegraph Cove is the best place for whale watching as there are many resident whales. This gives you a much great chance of seeing these beautiful sea mamals in their natural habitat.

In the Northern part of the island you can do many tours for Grizzly Bear watching or other bear watching opportunities.

Besides all that there are tons of places for hiking, kayaking, skiing, beach combing and so much more. The island is full of possibilities for outdoor activities.

Your photo of the Robson Bight Orcas should make it to National Geographic. Inspiring pages - My wife and I are great Canada fans.
