Victoria: City of Sea and Gardens | The Legislative Building in Victoria |
Victoria is a great city to visit! This place has the mildest climate in Canada, and is a green place all year round. There are many flowers in bloom and all over the city, even in the winter! No wonder that Victoria is called The Garden City! The beauty of the Pacific coast and many different outdoor activities are within the city limits.
Victoria shows it's history through different things, you can see the colourful First Nations totem poles, heritage architecture and afternoon tea. There is also the University of Victoria within the city limits. You can find lots of British imports, Native art and the latest trends. Restaurants and cafés serve the a great cuisine. The harbour is alive with its lovely walkway around the water where you can see many entertainers.
The city is a year-round tourism destination that offers a friendly, safe haven for all visitors. Getting here is pretty easy, you can fly in or take the ferry. Once you are here you will as if you are far away, it's a different world on the Island. With a clean environment and such a charming feel, it is no surprise that Victoria BC is one of the world's favorite destinations. |
| The beautiful Butchart Gardens |
The beautiful Gardens When you visit this city in the spring or summer you will see thousands of flowers all over the city. On harbour's Causeway there are flowers that spell "Welcome to Victoria", it's really beautiful to see. The street performers add to all the ambience that is found in this place. Up from the harbour, fiddlers, folksingers, and classical ensembles are found on downtown streets.
Some of the best places and gardens filled with flowers are: *Beacon Hill Park: With its streams and duck ponds, peacocks, aviary, shrubs, oak trees and firs, playgrounds, paths, flower garden, and lovers' lane, the park is a quiet hideaway in the midst of downtown Victoria.
*Butchart Gardens: What was a limestone quarry, became, in 1904, gardens of delight, drawing over 1 million visitors every year. This park includes: the Sunken Garden, Japanese Garden, rose, and Italian Gardens.
*University of Victoria: The parklike grounds on the campus with their jogging trails are a blazing glory in the spring when all the rhododendrons are in bloom. There are also duck ponds and benches.
For the rest you will see flowers blooming around the Legislative Building and The Empress hotel. Hanging flower baskets are seen all over town, and other flowers can be seen throughout the streets and other parks. |
The city by the sea Victoria has lots of nice beaches too. These beaches are ideally suited for people to enjoy the ocean sunshine. Most of these beaches have change rooms & showers, picnic tables, even playgrounds. The beaches along Marine Scenic Drive are pleasant places to bask in the summer sun or cool off with a dip in the ocean.
Popular beaches are Gonzales Bay, Shoal Bay, Willows Beach, Cadboro Bay, Mt Douglas Beach, and Cordova Bay. On the other side of Victoria you can find sandy shores at Esquimalt Lagoon, Witty's Lagoon, and Weirs Beach. |
